This one via gina_r_snape , who asked me Five Questions. So if you'd like me to ask you 5 questions in return, post in the replies. Then update your journal with the answers to the questions. Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.
1. How many ties do you own and which is your favorite?
i think the current count is somewhere in the area of 15 or 16. my current favourite is either the dark green checked one or the crimson one with crimson paisley... its hard to describe, like, its all crimson but when the light hits it you see the paisley embroidery? ...i'll take a picture, its badass.
2. Did you ever get to see Elliot Smith perform live and if so how was he? If not, which is your favorite album and why?
i didnt, and i have mixed feelings about that. i was too far away and too young to get over there to see him, but i have tons of live recordings which... i mean some are awesome, which i would have loved to have seen, and some are terrible and awkward, which would have been terrible and awkward for me. my favourite album is probably either/or, i remember getting it when i was 15 or 16 and just listening to it over and over and over again for probably 3 or 4 months. it was just one of those albums that hits you at the right time, you know? that was the beginning of my elliott smith love.
3. How did you wind up getting into Flickr?
you know, i dont even know. i think i read an article about the 365 project and was currently unemployed with a lot of spare time, and i was like, you know, that sounds pretty cool. little did i know the lifesucking vortex i had comitted myself to.
4. How come your Flickr pics never include your boyfriend? And does he take the pictures of you?
i take all the pictures myself, with a timer usually, since otherwise i cant count it as a "self portrait." he's in them on important days that include him, anniveraries and birthdays and a few other ones, but when i'm in school we're about an hour and a half away from each other. plus, my 365s are usually spurr of the moment ideas and hes, you know, at work or something.
5. Chucks - great footwear . . . or the greatest footwear?
the greatest, obviously. a broken in pair of chucks feels like i'm not even wearing shoes, what other shoes can make that boast?

...my coworkers are going to be so happy with me for exposing them.

suddenly having a job where i am wearing a tie everyday (somewhat by choice, somewhat by the guilt that comes with being the only person NOT required to do something) has thrown my already compulsive necktie-buying side into high gear.
"i need a tie that isnt in the green color family. oh theres one over there!" "i seem to keep working on game day, i need an alabama tie." "holy shit, that tie has tiny heads of wheat all over it. obviously, i need one."
...yeah, its getting ugly.

ok. so. yesterday, on the way back from mobile, my car breaks. on the side of i-10. in 100 degree heat. thankfully its outside the weigh station and not in the middle of nowhere. so i call a towtruck and set about trying to find someone to rescue me from the side of the road. my dad works 5 minutes away, but at the time my car breaks down he's in ft walton. neumann is in santa rosa county doing a story. sav is in ft walton picking up her paycheck. and my mom doesnt have the car because my little brother is driving it to be a camp counselor to autistic kids. can we talk about how awesome my timing is?
i assume the serpentine belt broke but i dont actually know because they actually havent even called me yet.
today. supposed to fly to milwaukee with neumann. Got up at 4 am to get on a plane. Connecting flight is canceled. New flight is overbooked. So are all the others. within a 100 mile radius of milwaukee. they're also overbooked through half of tomorrow. Fml.
...i keep telling neumann we should just give up and go to graceland. he is not down.

i spent my 24th birthday getting impressively drunk at the z, continuing drinking at sir dicks long after i should have stopped, telling a 21 year old boy i was going to make out with him (and then not doing so), going back to joshs, slamming my forehead into his entryway, busting my head open, and waking up the next morning thoroughly confused about why there was dried blood all over my face. ...sort of the story of the next 365 days.
its been a weird year. they're all weird years.
tomorrow i turn 25. and thats sort of a milestone birthday so i feel like i should actually DO something to celebrate it. but i have no idea what. ...possibly something involving less bloodshed on my part.
and... i mean. 25? really? maybe its time to get my life together.
nah. who am i, dale halstead?

jimmy chamberlin has left smashing pumpkins 2.0? so now billy corgan is the only original member left? and its still "the smashing pumpkins" and not "billy corgan solo+backing band"?
i am even more not ok with this than before.

ryan adams, can we talk about how much i love you?
mobile show: i knew i was in for good things when it started with "i see monsters." seriously. the mobile show was awesome, if a little weird crowd-wise. there was a drunk girl across the aisle from me that was just being a drunk mess and i thought there was gonna be a crowd revolt to get her to shut up. and she was in the first row, which just made it worse. and the bouncers were being all weird and not letting anyone stand up, so there wasnt a lot of energy. but the band was killer.
( i couldnt have gotten a better setlist if i'd picked one myself: )
no encore. but i feel bad complaining about 2 hours of cardinals just because they didnt play 2 more songs.
atlanta show: jesus christ. jesus fucking christ. atlanta made it abundantly clear just how subdued and different the mobile show was. for one thing, basically everyone was standing the entire show which always makes things better. the band seemed a lot happier to be there. adams was in a good mood and joking around with the crowd and jamming out nd played till curfew and all those things you want in a show. plus, honestly, it always makes me feel warm and fuzzy when quiet parts of songs hit and you can suddenly hear the entire fucking audience singing. also there was a sarrasin clone next to us in the lobby. i almost took a picture.
( i smell something strange... did you guys bring in a george foreman grill? )
amazing. there wasnt much pedal steel in the mix at either show which was a little weird and made me a little sad, but whatever.
then we went to a bar and i drank 11% beer and neumann got so drunk he was singing alanis morrisette and forgot what side of the bed was his.
so i mean... awesome weekend. and its only saturday afternoon.

[17 Feb 2009|08:12pm] |
i really hate the "tell us why your past work and school experiences qualify you for this position" part of applications... mostly because my past work and school experiences in no way qualify me to be a cashier or in any way sell people things. ...or be around people at all. or do anything outside of engineering or like, professional copy machine operator.
so i went with
"By interacting on a daily basis with engineers, I developed skills in relating to and interacting with even the most socially inept of people."
...i'll let you know how that works out for me.

indication #512 that you have lived your entire life in the south:
in the james bond movie you are watching, the girl asks bond if he knows how to ski, and you are genuinely confused when they are in snow in the next scene.
like, waterskiing is the only thing that registers under "ski."
...or maybe thats just an indication you're a bauer, i dont know.
